Headphones That Tell You About Your Heart Health

28 ottobre 2025

1 min di lettura

The company MindMics has developed an infrasound technology called SoundPoint, which uses headphones to record low-frequency sound waves produced by the human body. The technology gives a complete picture of heart health, including data on heart rate, blood volume in veins and arteries, and valve function.

Works without interference

Clinical tests have shown that SoundPoint measures the interval between heartbeats with 99 % accuracy, equal to the level of the best ECG monitors. The in-ear earpieces for capturing heartbeat and other cardiac blood flow readings work well — even during music playback. The headphones can be worn throughout the day to assess how the user's daily activities affect the heart.

SoundPoint is not only capable of measuring heartbeat intervals with an accuracy worthy of an advanced ECG monitor — a set of other cardiac data can be used to create algorithms for even more accurate detection of atrial fibrillation and other types of cardiac arrhythmias.

New and improved data

According to Charles Bridges, chief medical advisor of MindMics, the SoundPoint headphones monitor the consistency of the heart and brain, enabling the wearable monitor to provide accurate data that can help assess the health of both organs. By continuously recording human body sound waves and uploading them to the cloud for analysis, the system can accumulate a significant amount of data per second. In comparison, other wearable devices only measure heart rate once every few minutes.

Data analysis can also be done through MindMics' Hear&Now smartphone app, which allows the user to see heart rate, breathing rate, stress levels, and other data. Additionally, this data provides the user with real-time recommendations for breathing exercises and improving heart health.

Early success

Although the SoundPoint system is still only available for research purposes, the first trials have been successful. They included 15 patients with various arrhythmias and 15 patients with normal sinus rhythm who wore the headphones for 20 minutes each.
