Bacon: roughly half of the calories found in bacon consist of saturated fats. Regular consumption of saturated fats increases your bad cholesterol levels, and with it, your risk of heart attacks and strokes. Bacon is very salty, and excess salt in the diet leads to high blood pressure and subsequent heart problems.
Sausage: the downsides of bacon are just as true about sausage. A lot of fat and salt, as well as a large number of various additives, means it is very unhealthy. If you can't live without meat, try to eat poultry products. They also contain a lot of salt, but almost no saturated fats.
Red meat: these have a lot of the saturated fats mentioned above. Therefore, pork and beef should be included in the diet only occasionally. When possible, choose the least fatty parts.
Sweet sodas: the enormous amount of sugar in popular carbonated drinks increases the caloric content of the diet many times over and increases the risk of obesity, type 2 diabetes, and high blood pressure. Clearly, this is not a healthy choice.
Pastries: cookies, cakes, muffins, and brownies are high in sugar, trans fats, and refined flour. Consumption of all these inevitably leads to weight gain and cardiovascular problems.
Butter: on the one hand, it is rich in vitamins A and E, but on the other hand, it has a lot of saturated fats. Because of the saturated fats, it is a good idea to replace them with vegetable oil. This is especially true if you already have high cholesterol.
Refined grain products: this includes foods like white rice, baked goods, and pasta. These all contain a lot of simple carbohydrates and little fiber, vitamins, and minerals. Simple carbohydrates are instantly converted by our body into fat, which results in weight gain, high blood pressure, and a risk of a heart attack. You should not give up carbohydrates altogether, but give preference to whole-grain flour, bread, and pasta.
Alcohol: a small amount of alcohol will not harm the heart, but abuse of alcoholic beverages increases blood pressure and increases heart attack and stroke risk.
French fries and chips: these are both at the top of the list for foods that are harmful to the heart. Studies confirm that people who eat french fries 2–3 times a week live shorter lives, on average than those who do so only occasionally. High calories, excess salt, and large amounts of saturated fat make these foods the perfect trigger for cardiovascular disease.
Ice cream: unfortunately, one of everyone’s favorite desserts should be limited.. The abundance of sugar, fat, and calories leaves no other choice. If you want a treat, try sorbet or sugar-free nonfat ice cream.
Fast food: of course, this comes in many forms. However, you'll realize that the basis of popular fast food dishes includes the ingredients we have listed above. For example, fried chicken from fast food establishments is very unhealthy. There’s nothing wrong with the chicken itself, but when it is coated and fried in oil it turns into an unhealthy choice.
Of course, this list is far from complete. But this list shows us that the foods that most often cause us to gain weight — that is, those that contain saturated fats, sugar, and salt — are harmful to our hearts. It is impossible to eliminate everything harmful from your diet, but it is possible to minimize unhealthy foods as well as eat more vegetables, fruit, low-fat dairy products, and fish. In addition, it is recommended to take a lipid profile and have a regular cardiac check-up once per year. This will allow you to assess the state of your cardiovascular system and prevent possible diseases in time.
